RevoDUR® Performance

RevoDUR® represents the highest conductivity platform within the Revolit Thermal Architecture Framework. The trimetal architecture combines stainless steel surfaces with a copper based Thermal Spine to achieve extremely efficient heat spreading across industrial plates.

The thermal performance of the architecture is primarily determined by the high conductivity copper core and the resulting reduction of the total thermal resistance of the multilayer heat plate.

Heat Conduction in Multilayer Plates

Heat transfer in multilayer heat plates can be described using Fourier’s law of heat conduction:

q = -λ ∇T

Where q represents the heat flux, λ the thermal conductivity and ∇T the temperature gradient.

In multilayer architectures the resulting thermal behaviour depends on the interaction of all layers within the plate.

Serial Thermal Resistance

For heat transfer through the plate thickness the total thermal resistance can be described as:

Rtotal = Σ ( ti / λi )

The effective thermal conductivity of the entire plate is therefore:

λeff = ttotal / Rtotal

Reducing the resistance of the central conductive layer significantly improves the overall performance.

Copper Thermal Spine

The defining element of the RevoDUR® architecture is the copper Thermal Spine located between the two surface layers.

Copper exhibits a thermal conductivity of approximately:

  • λ ≈ 380–400 W/m·K

This conductivity is more than twenty times higher than that of stainless steel and several times higher than carbon steel.

The copper layer therefore acts as a highly efficient heat spreader distributing thermal energy across the entire plate.

Lateral Heat Spreading

In real industrial heating systems heat rarely flows purely through the plate thickness. Instead, lateral heat spreading inside the plate determines temperature uniformity.

The copper Thermal Spine dramatically improves this behaviour by distributing heat rapidly across the surface.

This reduces temperature gradients and improves stability in high power thermal systems.

Comparison with Other Architectures

Within the Revolit architecture framework the different multilayer platforms provide increasing thermal performance:

  • Class II – RevoTHERM® – Bimetal architecture optimized for structural stability.
  • Class III – RevoCORE® – Aluminium-Wärmekern for efficient heat spreading.
  • Class IV – RevoDUR® – Copper Thermal Spine for maximum thermal conductivity.

Engineering Implications

Due to the extremely high conductivity of copper, RevoDUR® is particularly suitable for systems with high heat flux or strict temperature uniformity requirements.

Typical applications include:

  • high power industrial heating plates
  • thermal reactors
  • precision temperature control platforms
  • advanced heat distribution systems
