RevoDUR® Materials

The RevoDUR® trimetal architecture combines stainless steel, high conductivity copper and structural carbon steel to form a multilayer heat plate optimized for maximum thermal performance.

The interaction of these materials determines the thermal conductivity, mechanical stability and corrosion resistance of the plate.

Active Skin – Stainless Steel

The Active Skin of RevoDUR® is typically manufactured from austenitic stainless steels such as AISI 304 (EN 1.4301) or AISI 316L (EN 1.4404).

These materials provide corrosion resistance, surface stability and predictable thermal behaviour.

Chemical Composition

  • Fe – Balance
  • Cr – 16–20 %
  • Ni – 8–14 %
  • Mo – up to 3 % (316L)
  • C – ≤ 0.03–0.08 %

Chromium forms a passive oxide layer (Cr₂O₃) which protects the steel surface from corrosion.

Thermal Spine – Copper

The central element of the RevoDUR® architecture is the copper Thermal Spine. This layer controls lateral heat distribution across the plate.

Copper possesses one of the highest thermal conductivities among engineering metals.

  • Thermal conductivity λ ≈ 380–400 W/m·K
  • Density ρ ≈ 8.96 g/cm³
  • Melting point ≈ 1085 °C

The high conductivity enables extremely efficient heat spreading and rapid thermal equalization across large surfaces.

Copper Chemical Composition

High conductivity copper typically consists of:

  • Cu – ≥ 99.9 %
  • O – trace amounts
  • Ag – trace amounts

This purity level ensures minimal electron scattering and maximizes thermal conductivity.

Passive Skin – Kohlenstoffstahl

The Passive Skin provides structural support and mechanical stability to the trimetal architecture. Typical materials include structural steels such as:

  • S235
  • S355

These steels provide high yield strength and structural rigidity, ensuring that the plate maintains flatness and dimensional stability under thermal load.

Typical Chemical Composition

  • Fe – Balance
  • C – ≤ 0.17 %
  • Mn – ≤ 1.4 %
  • P – ≤ 0.035 %
  • S – ≤ 0.035 %

Metallurgical Bonding

The three materials are combined through metallurgical bonding processes which create a stable interface between the layers.

This bonding ensures that the multilayer plate behaves as a single thermal structure while preserving the individual material advantages.

Material Interaction in the Trimetal Architecture

Within the RevoDUR® architecture each material fulfills a specific function:

  • Stainless Steel – corrosion resistant thermal interface
  • Copper – high conductivity heat distribution layer
  • Kohlenstoffstahl – structural stability and mechanical support

The result is a highly efficient multilayer heat plate architecture capable of distributing heat rapidly across large surfaces.
